Shayla D. Blankenship


Shayla D. Blankenship graduated from Olivet College in 1998 with a B.A. in English and Sociology/Anthropology. In January of 2002, Shayla graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, cum laude. After graduating from law school, Shayla worked for Legal Services of Eastern Michigan in Flint,and then the Underground Railroad in Saginaw before entering private practice.

Shayla is actively involved in the Genesee County Legal Community. She is an executive board member of the Center for Civil Justice serving on the Financial Committee and the Nominating Committee. She has been a member of the American Inns of Court since 2004 and currently serves as the Program Chair manager for the American Inns of Court. She served as the Chair of the Family Law Committee of the Genesee County Bar Association for three terms and remains an active member of the committee. Shayla is also on the Board of the Genesee County Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan Domestic Violence Committee, the State Bar of Michigan Children’s Law Committee, the Representative Assembly of the State Bar of Michigan and was recently selected to attend the Justice Initiatives Summit titled: “Engaging the Next Generations of Justice Initiatives Leaders”.

Shayla handles several areas of law, including criminal matters, contract law, and mediation services, however her practice is primarily focused on domestic relations matters involving divorce, child custody, parenting time, and the like. Although she is an experienced litigator, Shayla recognizes that not every matter requires Court intervention, and she encourages parties to consider mediation, when appropriate.
